Hiding Sunburnt Skin

If you read my previous post, then you would know that recently I went on a little get-away. And of course I didn’t use sunscreen. Way to go, Dana. Now I’m suffering from dry, red, flaking skin. Like I’m sure many people do, I thought I couldn’t wear makeup. Oh god the agony.. but I did a bit of research and found there was a way.

Step 1

The first step is taking care of your skin. Make sure your hands are clean before-hand. Use soap and cool water to wash your face. Next, I used a lotion that is used for a variety of needs, including sunburn. Let that settle and then use your normal moisturizer as usual.

Step 2

Time for makeup application, yip-ee! I would suggest using a foundation/BB cream with SPF in it. I didn’t use a primer because I thought it would just be too much for my skin right now, but experiment as you please.. I suggest a light-hand for application, using only where needed, and with light-padding motions. Try not to peel any flaking skin away (guilty as charged there.. bad habit ugh). Continue with your makeup as usual and voila. I kept my makeup to a minimal, meaning no primer, highlighter or bronzer. (I never use bronzer anyways, but I read it can be good for hiding sunburns)

This Thing Called Life – Stress & S’mores

I know, I haven’t posted anything in almost a week. So sorry! A mixture of stress at work and a mini get-away has kept me away from you guys. Which shall I talk about first..? Hmmm… Lets get the work-stress out of the way..

I work at a certain world-wide popular pizza place. I’m not going to say which one, but yeah, pizza. I usually work mornings, because it’s less chaotic, stressful, noisy, etc. I was scheduled to work to close a few nights ago.. our ordering system went down and when it came back up – BOOM – dozens of orders waiting to be made. I was running around, making everything as fast as I could, while making sure the quality of each pizza was on-point. I made a few mistakes, not surprisingly since I was panicking and overwhelmed. Well, once the rush died down, the shift-lead stormed up to me, “Not trying to be mean, but do you have hearing problems?” What?  I’m not going to quote everything he said, but yeah, as you can see, he was rude to me. I did my best but I got bitched at anyways. Excuse my french. On top of that, I’ve been working there for three months now, and I’m half-trained. I haven’t helped a single customer. Because why? Because no one has trained me to. I don’t know how to answer telephone calls or use the register to take orders. I’ve told several people about this but no one seems to care. So yeah. Good to know they care about their employees being well-trained.

ANYWAYS!

Lets talk about my mini vaction.. aahh yes, it was such a nice break after that night of disaster. Oh, did I mention the rude shift-leader made me cry after that? Yeah, that’s nice… anyywaayss… Over the weekend, my boyfriend brought up the topic of doing something special. He mentioned there was a lake about 30 minutes away. I looked into it Sunday evening, and that night we got all the food we needed for the trip. Monday morning, we borrowed a nice three room tent and a couple chairs from his grandparents (gosh, they’re so nice), and we went on our way to the lake! As you can tell, it was a very sudden trip, but it was just for a day. It was our first time going out of town on our own, so that was definitely a fun adventure in itself. As you can imagine, the camp grounds were pretty empty. Everyone already left from the weekend. We decided on a pretty good spot, right next to the lake, with plenty of privacy (plus no one else was camping anywhere around us). It took over an hour to set up the tent. We both had no idea what we were doing, but my man got the hang of it after a little while. Once we got settled we went for a swim in the lake. Which I think wasn’t a designated swimming area. Oops. We had sandwiches after that, and for dinner we got a fire going (well, mostly me) and cooked some weenies and s’mores. Yep, it was a pretty lazy, relaxing day. One that Adam (my boyfriend) and I have talked about having dozens of time before we were together.. Previously we were dating on the internet for.. 7 years. Just this past year has been our first together. Its been hard for both of us, but times where we just get to spend it together, no worries or stress, makes everything worth it. Here’s some pictures from our trip. Not very exciting pictures, but I wanted some kind of memento.

P.S. My face got sun-burnt pretty bad, so I won’t be doing any makeup looks for a few days at least.. I have a few looks stocked-up in my wonderful computer files, so I’ll have those for you guys!

Mongongo Vanilla Coconut Cream Lip Conditioner

Okay. So Ipsy sent me a lip balm. No biggie. This “lip conditioner” is actually very.. conditioning. I like it.. It’s probably the best thing I got this month.

Jor’el Parker: Classico

I’m not really one to get excited about being sent perfume. The scent isn’t anything special to me, so this will probably either be given away or forgotten.

BelláPierre Mineral Lipstick in P.I.N.K.

Alright, cool, a lipstick.. except.. it’s pink.. I feel like pink lipstick looks awful on me. Just me?

Eyetini Swizzle Stick Eyeliner in Blue Hawaiian

Yes! A blue eyeliner. Swatches beautifully, great color.. except.. it barely shows on the waterline. Maybe it’ll be better on the lash-line?

Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Bronzer

I’m not really in to bronzer, but I gave this a try anyways. I had high hopes for this, mostly because it was from tarte. I feel like I had to pack it on to even see it though. Maybe if I was in to the bronzed-look I would of liked this, but it was just meh for me.

Well, there you have it. I hope you weren’t as let down as me! Let me know what you got in your Ipsy bag this month.

July 2015 Haul + Swatches

Hey guys! I’m supah excited to be sharing with you all my latest haul. I got a decent mixture of goodies from Sugarpill, Colourpop & NYX! Yaayy ^.^

SAM_1050

Agh I don’t even know where to begin! Okay, okay, calm down Dana.. *lets out deep breath*

Okay! Let us address the elephant in the room. The Sparkle Baby Palette from Sugarpill!

sparklebabySAM_1055

If any of you doves remember, I had previously posted a wishlist awhile ago, which included this spectacular palette. And now it is MINE, mwhahaha! Now I just need the Cold Chemistry palette, the Burning Heart palette, the Heart Breaker palette and the Sweet Heart palette… so many palettes, so little time.. By far my favorite shade in this palette is Frostine. What a surprise, right? Nope, no surprise there Dana.

Oohh Colourpop, how could I ever say no to you? Exactly. You can’t. You just can’t! Its simple, yet alluring packaging, the seductive price tag, its oh-so decadent quality.. Yes…Yes!

Uhm excuse me..

colourpop SAM_1061

Between the Sheets is a lovely nude-pink blush. Perfect with any look and every day wear. Spoon is a champagne highlight. Which is also friggin’ amazing for every day wear.. annnd of course I could not resist buying more eyeshadow (yeah, because you totally needed them Dana)… (I actually kind of do).. All the eyeshadow I got from Colourpop are matte, and oh.. my.. god.. I think I died and went to heaven when I swatched them for the first time. Actually, I think I die and reincarnate every time I swatch them.

Wow I can not tell you how long I have been wanting products from NYX. I live in a small town, with not very many choices makeup-wise. When I saw Ulta was having a 50% off NYX products, I couldn’t pass that chance up.

nyx SAM_1068

First off, I have no idea why I got a brown lip liner. What year am I in? The 90s? Surely not. *shrugs* I also got another lip liner in Mauve and a soft matte lip cream in London. Mauve and London paired together is so pretty. I’ve been wanting to try a setting spray for awhile, so I purchased the matte finish. Safe to say, I think it does extend the wear of my makeup. Last and most boringly, I got the matte liquid eyeliner and the tinted brow mascara in Brunette.

I’m happy to report that I love everything I hauled this month. Tell me about your latest haul!

Unnatural VS Natural – AKA Power of Makeup

No doubt most of you have heard of the internet beauty sensation, the “Power of Makeup”. Indeed, makeup can be powerful. With some people it’s more apparent than others. Myself being the less-apparently-so. Nevertheless, I wanted to take part in this internet sensation. I support makeup completely (obviously, this is a makeup blog!). I wasn’t always supportive of the idea, however; long ago, in my naive years. The thought of foundation and concealer made me gag in disgust, ignorantly stating that anyone who used such things were “hiding something”. Hah, silly twelve-year old Dana, your nineteen-year old self uses all of that and more now. Of course, I am not hiding anything, but merely enhancing what I was already given. Makeup is a form of expression; a way to let out inner creativity. Being an introvert, this is also my “me” time. I’m sure many of you can relate to one or more of these explanations for applying makeup. The point is, I wear makeup for me. Not my boyfriend. Not my family. Not that stranger in the grocery store who keeps awkwardly staring at me..

for

MYSELF.

Now, let us examine my awkward Two-Face face (HAH, get it? From Batman?.. yeah that was lame, huh..?). Aside from makeup, I also only did one half of my hair, just for kicks. On the “unnatural” side you can see my face looks more.. mature. My right cheek appears to be less “soft” and my cheekbone is much more defined. This is the most obvious difference.  My lightly stained lid is covered in a sultry green smokey eye, and my dark under-eye is hidden so I appear more awake. The soft pink glow of my cheek is concealed under a veil of foundation and replaced with a more precise rosey-glow.

The transformation isn’t astounding or frightening, but there are differences. Of course makeup can be applied in different ways to achieve different feels, a great example being Korean makeup VS American makeup. Koreans love to look soft and young – doing their makeup accordingly – while Americans tend to have a more mature and sculpted look. Switch up the places you contour/highlight/blush, a very soft eyeshadow technique with soft brown eyeliner, dolly gradient lips, etc.. and voila, a more innocent-looking you. I prefer to look a little more grown-up and sexy though, so that is why I do my makeup the way I do.

I feel like I’m rambling now though, so I’ll leave it at that!

❤ you guys

Fourth of July Makeup

header

I don’t know about you guys, but I tend to find blue and red paired together in makeup pretty unflattering. But I wanted to do something festive for 4th of July, so I came up with a look that is “wearable” for me (I hate the word wearable, but here I am using it). Hope you guys are having a good Fourth!

Enough with the purple lipstick, Dana! I’m sorry guys, I just love it so much…

You know what I need to do? Another product review. Its been awhile huh? (Not counting that product duel post a few days ago. Hah, the graphic designs I did in that post were a bit overload, right? What do you guys think of my new headers? I think they suit my blog quite well.

A Promise

promiseA Promise to not look.

A Promise to not want.

A Promise.. to not consume.

(for a month)

So I may have done a bit of splurging tonight.. Colourpop, Sugarpill, NYX.. I feel pretty guilty about it, but then again it’s all stuff I’ve been wanting for a pretty long while now. That is why I have decided to commit myself to not buying any makeup until August 1st. No eyeshadow, blush, eyeliner.. not even mascara. Nothing. Some of you may laugh at me, but it’s a pretty hard commitment for me to make. I love trying new makeup. It might be a bit of an obsession.

With all of that out of the way, you guys can definitely expect a haul post.. NYX is having a 40% sale on Ulta’s website, which was the main reason I decided to get NYX. None of the stores in my insignificant location have NYX products, so of course I could not resist the sale. Have any of you splurged lately?

Product Duel – Equate Eye Makeup Remover

Hey guys. So today I wanted to do something a little different. I think doing daily look posts almost every Tuesday and Friday have been boring me, and probably you too. I’m still trying to get the hang of blogging; figuring out its inner tinkering, exploring its dark depths.. Mostly just trying to guess what works best for me though. Anyways, lets get this duel started!

Please leave a comment below and let me know if you want me to continue doing graphic designs like these. It took me hours to figure out how I wanted them, etc, but I think they turned out good.
